Duanwu Festival

June 8, 2008 (May 5th
of the lunar calendar) is our Chinese Duanwu Festival. This festival is
also called Dragon Boat Festival and
Double Fifth Day. The Sperm
Laboratory will serve every lab member with Zong Zi, a traditional
Chinese food since the
Warring States Period (475-221BC). Zong Zi will be served in the
morning of June 8, 2008. Let us meet together and enjoy our Chinese
traditional food on Double Fifth Day!

The first
YHY Club activity hold (post on May 29,
2008)
To provide more chances
for graduate students and senior undergraduate students, the three
laboratories, Dr. Qing-Feng Yan's lab, Dr. Xiao Huang's lab and Dr.
Wan-Xi Yang (the Sperm Laboratory), have united together. The YHY Club
has been setup based on the three PIs agreement. According to the
agreement, the last Thursday morning of each month, the YHY club will
hold joint lab meeting. Today, the YHY Club hold its first joint
meeting. Three students from different laboratories presented at the
club. 1. Ms. Xue-Rui Peng,
pre-defended her thesis prepared for master degree. Title: "Mutation in
nuclear modifier gene MTO2 regulates yeast`s sensitivity to
aminoglycoside antibiotics in the presence of a paromomycin resistance
mutation in mitochondrial 15 S rRNA." Supervisor: Dr. Qing-Feng Yan; 2.
Ms.
Jing Yu, who is from the Sperm Laboratory, presented a recent
journal at the club, "Molecular Characterization and Expression of a
Novel Kinesin Which Localizes With the Kinetoplast in the Human
Pathogen, Leishmania donovani", published on Cell Motility and
