New
proposal granted by National Nature Science Fundation of China.

New project proposed by Dr.
Wan-Xi Yang was just approved by National Nature Science Fundation of
China, a special number 40776079 was assigned for this project. The
title is " The expression and its molecular mechanisms of actin during
spermatogenesis of Chinese mitten crab, Ericheir sinensis". The funding
period is from January 1, 2008 until December 31, 2010. Florida
Institute of Technology, USA and Fisheries Institute of Eastern China
Sea at Chinese Fisheries Academy are two collaborative institutes. Prof.
Jun-Da Lin and Dr. Lu-Jiao Gao are collaborators.

visited
Szent Istvan University at Godollo

Dr. Wan-Xi Yang and Prof. Jun-Quan Zhu visited Department of Fish
Culture, Szent Istvan University at Godollo, Hungary from September 1 to
September 7, 2007. During their 7-day's visiting, Chinese scientists and
their Hungarian collaborators worked together on bilateral project
between Ningbo City and Szent Istvan University at Godollo. The
title of the project is "Studies on sperm cryopresercation, fertilizing
ability, and effects on embryo hatching of three economic fishes in
Ningbo area"(No.2006C100044). They have also discussed about further
collaboration in sperm cryopreservation field. Mr. Qing-Nian Wang,
Director of Education Section at Chinese Embassy at Hungary, met
Dr. Wan-Xi Yang, Prof. Jun-Quan Zhu, and their Hungarian collaborator
Dr. Ákos Horv¨¢th on September 4, 2007.
Martina
finished her 10-day's visit to the Sperm Laboratory

Ms. Martina Bradic finished
her first visit to the Sperm Laboratory at Zhejiang University. During
her visit, Martina joined the Sperm Laboratory as a special lab member.
She introduced University of Zagreb to Zhejiang University, especially
her own research. She attended spermlab group meeting twice, and
she gave the spermlab a presentation on Aug. 29, 2007. She also
performed experiments in this laboratory. Prof. Ping Wu, the Deputy Dean
of College of Life Sciences, met Martina on Aug. 23, 2007. Prof.
Jian-Zhong Shao, the dean of College of Life Sciences, and Prof. Qing-Feng
Yan, assistant to dean, met and talked to Martina on Aug. 29, 2007. As
Martina's Chinese collaborator, Dr. Wan-Xi Yang discussed with Martina
several times about further collaboration in future. Both parties agreed
that international co-study is the trend for future scientific research,
they agreed that they should apply for new international collaborative
project which is at governmental level.
Two college
students from the Sperm Laboratory finished the exchanging program and
came back from University of Washington at Seattle
Ms. Ya-Nan Jiang and
Ms. Jing Yu took part in the " Arts and Sciences Program " between
University of Washington (UW) and Zhejiang University. This Educational
Outreach-International program aims to provide the Chinese students a
chance to experience American cultures and improve their English
abilities as well. 29 days' staying in Seattle, from July 14th to August
12th, The two students attended lectures, took class drop-ins, visited
labs and met professors in School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy and
Department of Biology. They also enjoyed the beautiful sceneries in
Seattle, visited the Microsoft and Boeing Company. They harvested a lot
from their trip.

researcher from University of Zagrab, Croatia, attended Journal
Club of the Sperm Laboratory on August 24, 2007. Ms. Martina
Bradic introduced her research interests to the Sperm Laboraotry
before Journal Club began.
