During the visit, Prof. Supawadee Chullasorn and her research assistant Ms. Ratchadawan Jullawateelert performed experiments on reproductive biology of two copepods: Tigriopus sirindhornae and Tigriopus thailandensis Chullasorn et al. 2011. We are interested in the formation of spermatophore and sperm release mechanism. of the copepod. Prof. Supawadee Chullasorn presented at our weekly group meeting, the title of her seminar: Diversity of Harpacticoid copepods in Thailand.

The Second Group Meeting of the Spring Semester of 2011
The Sperm Laboratory's second group meeting was held on Mar. 4, 2011. Dr. Wan-Xi Yang called on all the lab members to unite together. He summoned the students to read papers everyday and to do every experiment and to observe the results carefully. The Sperm Laboratory submitted a research proposal to National Natural Science Fundation of China, Mr. Da-Hui Wang, the Ph.D. student at the Sperm Laboratory, participated in writing the proposal. Ms. Xiao Sun, Ms. Cong-Cong Hou and Mr. Hai-Tao Mao participated in discussing the proposal.

The First Group Meeting of the Spring Semester of 2011
The Sperm Laboratory's first group meeting was held on Feb. 25, 2011. Dr. Wan-Xi Yang presented at the meeting. He said our laboratory is meeting new challenges in the new year, we must face all the challenges and work harder for our own future. New regulations and basic rules for the laboratory were announced at the meeting.

Karaoke Party on Jan. 17, 2011
The Sperm Laboratory members sang together at the Karaoke Party which was held at Kadi KTV House on Jan. 17, 2011. This is the third Karaoke Party of the Sperm Laboratory. We stayed in the Kadi KTV House for five hours and sang a lot of favorite songs. The following members attended the party: Da-Hui Wang, Xiao Sun, Huan Mao, Ran Dang, Na Xu, Cong-Cong Hou, Hai-Tao Mao, and Xiao-Xin Ma. Dr. Wan-Xi Yang also joined us and sang his favorite songs.

Group summarizing meeting on Jan. 14, 2011
The Sperm Laboratory held a summarizing meeting on Jan. 14, 2011, Friday. Dr. Wan-Xi Yang summarized the progresses of the whole lab in 2010. Totally 7 research papers and 2 review articles were published in the past year 2010. Two of the research papers were published on PLoS ONE. A research proposal submitted to National Natural Science Fundation of China (NSFC) was granted in August of 2010. A new cytoskeletal structure, acroframosome (AFS) was discovered and named by the Sperm Laboratory in 2010. AFS functions as an acrosome framework during spermiogenesis in Caridean shrimp. Dr. Yang encouraged the whole members to work shoulder by shoulder in the ongoing 2011, so we could have more discoveries in the reproductive biology field..

New paper published on PLoS ONE on Dec. 20, 2010
One  paper from our lab was published on PLoS ONE on Dec. 20, 2010. This paper investigated the function of KIFC1-like protein during spermatogenesis in Octopus tankahkeei. The results support our assumption that the KIFC1-like motor protein is actively involved in sperm nuclear morphogenesis in O. tankahkeei possibly through bridging the manchette-like perinuclear microtubules to the nucleus and assisting in the nucleocytoplasmic trafficking of specific cargoes. This study represents the first description of the role of a motor protein in sperm nuclear shaping in cephalopod. The citation is as follows: Wang W, Zhu J-Q, Yu H-M, Tan F-Q, Yang W-X (2010) KIFC1-Like Motor Protein Associates with the Cephalopod Manchette and Participates in Sperm Nuclear Morphogenesis in Octopus tankahkeei. How to write research paper? Topic of the group meeting  on Dec. 17, 2010
How to writing a research paper is very important for scientists. Graduate students are scientist candidates, and writing papers are basic skills for them. Some undergraduate students who plan to take research as their career also need to grasp such a skill. Actually,  learning how to write a research paper is very important for those who take research as their career. Research paper is the main media between scientists and readers, a paper should be easy to understand, and the discovery described in the paper should be new. But how to make readers understand the paper? A good writing is very basic. Dr. Wan-Xi Yang talked about the basic methods and skills for research paper writing at the group meeting on Dec. 17, 2010. He encouraged all members to do their best when they begin to write a research paper.
